In the night of Thursday, April 14, 2016,  forces loyal to president Ouattara raided the campus of Cocody, resulting in several casualties among the college students. The Ivorian League of Human Rights reveals that the situation that prevailed in Cocody campus during the punitive descent of Ouattara's forces, has caused enormous consequences. This violent repression by Ouattara's militia which is also the national police force, caused several abuses, including 4 cases of rape of female students. The President of the LIDHO also said that consultations are underway to provide psychological support to help the raped students overcome their ordeal. Ouattara's government, of course, denied these facts.
Similar cases of female students raped by government forces occurred in May 1991, when president Ouattara was then- Houphouet Boigny prime minister. No one was brought to justice , Ivorians unanimously wonder, if those responsible for the rapes of these college students, would ever be accountable for their actions.
In the midst of a social uproar, Ouattara left for New York where he will be attending a summit on climate Friday, April 22, 2016.
