83 political prisoners headed to court

Abidjan ( Ivory Coast )-----83 political prisoners headed to court

For almost two months, a succession of politicians, journalists and other Gbagbo supporters have been questioned before the court, including a former prime minister and seven other ex-ministers, but no witnesses have been called to challenge their testimony.
Most disappointing were the accusations as they unfolded in court. Once again, no specific facts, no hard evidence to support the constitution in gangs, rebellion or identity theft, charges brought by Ouattara government against these political prisoners. No piece of evidence has been presented; only unconvincing testimony, based mostly on rumors. And in the end, no concrete evidence against these political prisoners.
When journalists were accused of incitement to hatred, no press articles, broadcast recordings or video items were brought forward to back the prosecution claims. "This is no ordinary trial. This is a political trial, the trial of French foreign policy in Africa which installs at will their sympathizers to lead African countries." insisted Dadjé Lawyer for the 83 political prisoners. "This is the trial of neo-colonialism, political interference of France in African countries," blasted the counselor.
Like the defendants, the political opposition and representatives of civil society have denounced bias in the trial.
